Five days tour with snowmobile
Snowmobiling is a great way to get out and experience the arctic. The combination of adrenaline as you drive fast over huge areas and the calmness you get from nature is outstanding! We drive through a landscape shaped by the inland ice; through ancient forests, over swamps, lakes and mountains. There is a good chance of seeing different kind of animals such as moose, reindeer, hare or the characteristic snow grouse. If we are lucky we might get a glimpse of some of the more reserved predators who live here, like lynx or wolverine. We always keep our eyes open for tracks.
Day one – One of our guides meet you in Kiruna for a transfer by car to our farm. This is the base were the tour will start and end. It is located in a small village called Puoltsa close to Kalix River. At the farm you get to install yourself in your room and we will also show the clothes and safety gear needed for the tour. In the afternoon we have a look at the snowmobiles and take them for a short test ride. In the evening we enjoy dinner together and discuss the trail ahead.
Day two – After breakfast we start to get ready for a day on the snowmobile. It usually takes some time to get prepared and pack everything the first day. Everyone is excited and maybe a bit nervous in the beginning. But as soon as we have left the farm and you start to get used to the machine, the feeling is amazing! Your Sami guide takes you through incredible mountain areas, areas which have been the home of the Sami people for thousands of years. Here lives also the reindeer, cared for by the Sami people, whose life have been dependent on the reindeer for a long time.
For lunch we stop somewhere wind protected and cook local food over fire, moose and reindeer meat is a common ingredient. We continue the drive and end up in the small mountain village Ratekjokk. There is no roads around and unlikely to meet anyone else here. Our cabin we are staying in is cozy and genuine; you really get the feeling of being away from everything else. We have a nice dinner with lots of time for stories about the past and the present life here. Hopefully the night sky light up with stars and the northern lights.
Day three – We have a good breakfast, needed for another day on the snowmobile! We pack everything together and head out again. Hopefully the weather is on our side and we can drive higher up in the alpine mountains. We are now close to Kebnekaise, the highest mountain of Sweden. The lunch is made outdoors today as well. After a long day outside, full of breathtaking experiences and new impressions we come back to the farm in Puoltsa. Here awaits a well-deserved sauna and a nice dinner. On this day you might feel some new muscles and for that the sauna is perfect!
Day four – The last snowmobile day, we all know the drill and everyone is eager to go! We decide the route after weather and snow conditions, if you have any certain wishes we take that in mind too. You are familiar with the guide, the machine and the snow. With a few days of driving behind you, you are now ready to test your limits and try to get the most out of your driving. Hopefully the weather is nice with great views and a beautiful arctic blue sky. We all enjoy our last day and by the time we get back the feeling is very satisfying. The last night is spent at the farm.
Day five – This is the departure day, after breakfast we drive you back to Kiruna.
Sometimes we have to adjust the program. The nature can be powerful and it is not something we can control, therefore it is impossible to know the exact route ahead. Safety comes first and we always try to choose the best possible route after the weather conditions on each day.
Minimum age for driving is 18 years and a driving license for car is needed. For the best experience, we recommend single snowmobile on this tour.
